The Hard Work Puts You Where the Good Luck Can Find You

Written By: Jeremy Williams

Never been a fan of someone telling me that “I’m lucky” when it comes to success. Most don’t see the work behind the scenes. The hours of prospecting, conversations, marketing, relationship building, etc. on top of what I do as my profession. It’s the hard work that aligns with the opportunities…or the luck.

Don’t let someone take away what you’ve accomplished by telling you that you’re just lucky. If only I had what you had. Know that your success is built on the hard work that often goes unseen and uncelebrated.

Cheers to my behind the scenes people working hard today. Your results are what you’ve earned putting in the work. It’s not easy, and it is necessary.

The Same and Different | Embracing Change

Written By: Coach Jeremy Williams

Our kids were off for Fall Break this week so we spent some time up at Lake Conroe, and on Tuesday we made a trip out to Aggieland. Wanting to give our children the Aggieland experience, we took them to the famous Dixie Chicken on Northgate for lunch. When I stepped through the doors nothing in the Dixie Chicken had changed. We were greeted with the same hospitality I could remember as a student. We sat at the wood tables etched with carvings from the many that had passed through over the years. The live rattlesnake was still on display, which my kids asked if it was real, and yes, it is real. Nothing had changed, or has it….

I am not the same person that walked through those doors 20 years ago. I’ve grown. I’ve become the person I need to be in order to achieve what I want to achieve (and it is still a work in progress). I have a family. I am a businessman. I’ve had many successes over the years, and I have had a few stumbles; I refer to them as growth opportunities.

I’ve worked for egotistical #$%hats, and I’ve worked with people that have gone out of their way to pour into me. I’ve seen the good, the bad, and the ugly. 3 years ago I challenged myself and launched a coaching business, and I was told by many I would fail. The old me upon those words would have reverted back to average, yet the new me reminded myself all things are possible as spoken in God’s Word. Matthew 19:23-30 BTW – I am Blessed having the opportunity of helping many business owners.

So in the Dixie Chicken I sat eating the same hamburger and Tijuana fries I did 20 years ago in an environment that had not changed, yet as a person I have changed, and I continue to embrace growth and change. Don’t be afraid of change. Great things await on the other side of that sometimes not so easy change.

Now a commitment today to my Peloton to work off those Tijuana fries.

Prospecting is Like Fishing

Written By: Coach Jeremy Williams

Prospecting is like fishing; at least like my experience when fishing 😁. Sometimes you will catch fish on an outing, and other times you might not even get a bite. The important thing is that you made the attempt.

If you feel like your business is running out of leads, you’re probably not fishing. So many times, I’ve seen business owners get so busy with the work they have in front of them that they neglect putting the pole back out in the water.

Prospecting is a daily activity. Prospecting is the grind, and it is the mundane, and it is what will feed you. The best way to ensure prospecting happens daily is to work at building a habit around the activity.

Go “fishing” daily, and I can ensure the “catch” will show up.

Don’t Assume Friends to Do Business with You

Written By: Coach Jeremy Williams

I saw this today, and I am going to have to disagree. Just because you’re a friend doesn’t mean that you don’t have to earn the business. I see people get upset all the time because a friend does not choose to work with them, yet their work ethic isn’t to par.

Don’t have the false sense that because you are friends with someone that they will choose to do business with you. You have to earn their business just like with someone you do not know. You may even have to work a little harder.

Put in the work, do the right things, and yes, your friends will work with you. Here are 3 steps to do more business with friends:

  1. They have to know you’re in the business. Stop assuming they know what you do for a living.
  2. You have to ask for their business and/or referrals. If you don’t ask, they will lean towards the thoughts that you don’t take your business seriously, or you don’t care about them.
  3. They must have evidence in actions at a minimum, and results will always win over.

Stop listening to what is not true.

BTW – If you’re going to give me a jacked up haircut, and you’re a friend, I will not get a haircut from you again.

Today is a new day. Get out there are start doing business with friends because you’ve done the right things to earn their business.

Onward and Upward,
Coach Jeremy

Success Is Important and Being Healthy is More Important

Written By: Coach Jeremy Williams

Operating a business at a high level is important, and being healthy is even more important. Health can be a huge factor when it comes to giving our best to our business and the clients served. It is optimal health that allows the push in our business to achieve greater things.

Are you giving your best today, or are you giving what is left? Make sure you are committing time in your schedule everyday to your health. It may be as much as going on a brisk 20 minute walk on the trails, riding a bike, hitting the gym, or whatever you enjoy doing that causes you to move. Remember exercise is like 20% of overall health, and 80% is what you eat and drink.

Make a commitment today. Even if it is small…make a commitment to your health. Your clients and your family are counting on you.

Today I knocked nearly 16 and a quarter miles on the Peloton taking a 60 minute Power Zone Endurance class with Matt Wilpers – Peloton. If you asked me a couple of months ago if I thought I could do this, I would have probably said no. Yet, I made a commitment, and today is a victory.

You can do this too.

Onward and Upward and in Gratitude,
Coach Jeremy
